the ethics of anarchism Empty
PostSubject: the ethics of anarchism   the ethics of anarchism Icon_minitimeSun Sep 28, 2008 11:30 am

i have been contemplating the idea of using propaganda to convince people to become anarchists. so i came up with the phrase "strength in diversity" to sum up the main concepts of anarchism into a phrase that you can basically put anywhere you want, from your signature on forums to comments on youtube.
so i contemplated this idea and its ability to become a successful tool. then i contemplated the idea of anarchism being a new kind of culture/spitiruality, which is ample enough to satisfy people's social and spiritual needs. so i have been contemplating some important principles of anarchism:

(i wrote this as if i was trying to convince a non-anarchist)

The Ethics of Anarchism

-compassion and solidarity:
this involves you as an individual to be compassionate towards your fellow beings, not just human beings, but animals as well. it involves the fittest caring for the weakest, and helping everything lower than you progress to achieve a higher state of being. this kind of compassion is essential to living in a community. this involves not only helping those arround you, but establishing connections with people. it is important to have a group of friends that you can rely on, share your ideas, and share your feelings with. all of us have needs, and all of us have things that we can give to others, so it is important that we give to others according to their necessities, be they spiritual, or material. this way everyone will be able to live a healthy, un-alienated life within a community.

-communication:
this ties in with compassion and solidarity. it involves how we communicate with others. it is hard to establish connections with others arround us if we only talk and never listen, or the other way arround. it is important that we express our ideas and feelings, so other will understand us, and it is also important that we listen to other so we understand them better. this mutual udnerstanding creates a deep connection between all of us.
~when it comes to male-female (or male-male, etc.) relationships, its important to leave our penises out of the equation. a lot of times men focus too much on a sexual aspect of life, and not enough on establishing a harmonious relationship.
relationships come first since harmony is whats important; sex comes second.

-dialectics:
dialectics is the key to change, and to non-reliance on authority. the more active each citizen is in their community, the less representative authority will be needed. you as a member of your community should point out what you see as problematic and attempt to get others to debate so as to come to a consensus. the formation of non-hierarchical, democratic institutions is also essensial for the management of affairs within a community. trade as well as production, services, and research should be managed this way.
during the spanish anarchist period, it is said that when three anarchists met, a pamphlet was written. this is how active citizens need to be.

-individualism:
unlike other forms of socialism, anarchism focuses on the individual. it emphazises the power of each individual to create great change is he strikes in the right place.
anarchism also emphasizes the idea that each individual is unique, with unique needs and abilities, and that this kind of diversity should be embraced and used for the benefit of society.

-health and ecology:
you as an individual should take good care of your body, and have a healthy mind. as you care for your community, ecology, your friends and family, you will be able to maintain good mental and spiritual health.
it is also important that you live a healthy life by developing your mental and physical abilities. create your own music and art, study the world arround you and understand the foundations on which it stands. dont limit yourself; reach as far as you can with your mind. most important of all, study and understand nature, grow your own food and plants, and help preserve wildlife.

-anticonsumerism:
it is very importnat, especially at this point in time, to avoid consumption of things like viedogame, TV, un-healthy foods (anarchists lean towards vegetarianism), expensive clothing, and instead, find satisfaction in the anarchist lifestyle.
make use of your creativity, and produce your own goods if you can.

this is the founding stone of modern anarchism. these are the ethical rules an individual needs to live by in order for a community to achieve anarchism, which is the absense of hierarchy. this is seed of a new culture, which will rise and replace the alienation and corruption which has grown in the past few thousand years.

so let these principles unite us under the name of anarchism.

feel free to make objections; diversity is our strength.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

any objections? any suggestions?

I would add freedom and equality to this list, risking sounding like some sort of politician.
People need to know that they're not free.

I really like the ant-consumerist point, for that's one of the things I focus on.. I don't by from any corporations anymore.

sam here and propoganda to an extent we don't want them to be foolishly led into anarchy with the intent of something else when in reality it's much different than what they believed...(if that makes sense) through education we can get support easy all we have to do is DE-propagandize them from what the media has told them about anarchy..

how would you define freedom then? because if you sum up all of the things i said, you have freedom.

what does equality mean?
most people use that word without knowing what it means, and that's what hold revolutionary movements back. people fight for something which seems clear, then it loses its meaning. i think its better to focus more on the definition of things, and stay away from poetic explanations

as far as de-propagandizing, i totally agree on that one. its mainly a misled idea of anarchism that keeps people away from the idea.
if people realize that there is a growing anarchist movement, and it represents everything which is good for an individual and a society, and a culture in itself, then opinions will change fast.

im going to a protest the 22nd, which is going to be the first i go to in my life, since in the US i couldnt go to any without getting deported. we are protesting against a plan which is going to privatize our education. the entire plan itself isnt bad, so we want to negociate, which is something which is necessary withing a democracy.
im looking into this one group called "corriente roja" (red current), which is a libertarian communist group which my friend is part of. i dont know much about it, but i do know that it doesnt accept the ideas of the spanish communist party and believes in radical democracy, so if i find it to be good i'll get involved in it.
im also looking to become more active locally, like in my school.

Good for you, man -- they're a libertarian Marxist organization, I think they're pretty big. That's all I know.
